There are several risk factors for heart disease. It is very important that one must know these risk factors and eliminate or perhaps lessen the possibility of having a heart attack. Most of these factors are controllable although there are some that we have no direct control.

However it is best to know and control the ones that we have direct control to have a healthier heart. Bear in mind that our heart is working 24 hours a day and the moment it stops, then that would be the end.

Controllable Risk Factors for Heart Disease

Smoking - has nicotine, one way or the other the nicotine will reach the coronary arteries (blood vessels of the heart) and will be deposited there like fats. One of its effects is blocking the arteries as well as creating a rusting effect on the vessel

Fats/Bad cholesterol - this will be deposited in the heart and will block the coronary arteries. This will block
the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart muscle and cause damage which may result to cardiac arrest.

Lack of exercise - it is important to do some regular exercise to make the body healthy most especially the heart.

Obesity - being overweight can overworked the heart

Hypertension - this will make the heart make more effort and may end suffering from stroke or cardiac arrest.

Diabetes - aside from the treat of having a kidney problem, this will also tend to damage the heart

Excessive Coffee intake - increases the hearts circulation due to the caffeine. Though some studies indicate that coffee is good for the heart, it should not be taken in excess. 4 to 6 cups a day would be fine and should be taken at intervals to allow the heart to relax.
